  • Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

I am really thanking Ms. Naoko because she created Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and I really liked its story. I’ve even learned how to draw Sailor Moon. I’ve even downloaded songs in the anime series and changed my profile pic into Sailor Moon. I wish that there is season 6. GO OTAKU!!!

Please forgive my comment for being long-winded (and the possible inaccuracies in it), but I’d like to post a comment in light of what I read above.

I can understand the pain of the price tag of some of these items we want; there are things from that I’d love to have, but are unavailable or too expensive for me to obtain. I don’t believe the creators of the anime/manga (that such products spawn from) have enough (if any) clout to influence prices to whatever he or she wishes it to be, including Ms. Takeuchi; regardless of how big Sailor Moon is (or was). That typed, I wouldn’t blame them from enjoying the fact that they get some returns out of it; after all, they have to make a living.

I don’t get the mindset that Sailor Moon (or [insert commercial franchise here]) is supposed to be such a classic that it has to be public domain and anything coming from it should either be free or–if not free–cost a dollar. That’s probably exaggerating No’s point of view above, but I honestly don’t think it’s by much (if the comment is genuine, and I won’t deny the possibility).

If Bandai and Ms. Takeuchi engaging in capitalism is enough for the person to lose respect, then I guess the person is either too naive or too angry to realize any of the above. Remember that these are novelties we don’t need to have in order to live, much less enjoy our fandom. Whatever the case, I honestly felt a little bothered by such negative comments for the reasons above (even if the mindset is common in various fandoms out there) and felt the need to respectfully disagree.

Also, I have to wonder how popular Sailor Moon truly is today. I recall reading a comment on another SM website (on a news item about the upcoming anime) that other things clearly overshadow SM in popularity (even within SM’s own genre), especially in Japan; that SM is something old that their parents were into in the ye ol’ days of the 1990s. This is why I’m very appreciative of how lucky we are in that we’re getting things now; from the accessories, figures, and other products to a new musical, a new anime, and the re-release of the manga. (And the new art she has created for it is beautiful.)

Again, I can understand the pain of being unable to get some of these things that we want, but I doubt that’s primarily Ms. Takeuchi’s fault. And regardless of whose fault it really is, these are luxuries we don’t need to have, and are lucky to have available to get. I don’t view Naoko Takeuchi as some Goddess who can do no wrong (she’s as human as all of us are), but in great contrast No’s anger and loss of respect to her (of which I will respectfully disagree and will agree to disagree), I still have a great deal of respect for Ms. Takeuchi.

In any case, I’m glad she continues to benefit from this, and I hope for her life has been–and continues to be–a good and prosperous one.

I don’t understand why is the fans thought it was Naoko Takeuchi was greedy. I thought it was Bandai themselves who was greedy. Really bad marketing/hype. Usually, after the anime was aired, then the company start selling the merchandise. The new Sailor Moon case was the other way around, it made me upset too. 🙁

    Or maybe because she has to work to earn money too. Her other manga weren’t successful as Sailor Moon & her husband kept going on hiatus for his works. >___>;;

  • Codename Sailor Earth

While I’m not sure why the manga (In Japan) has to be re-released every 10 years, I’m really happy to see new art from Naoko Takeuchi. It makes me curious about this long delayed art book. I just wish she’d give us a little more art for Codename Sailor V and for a few of the forgotten characters, like Kousagi Tsukino, Lethe, Mnemosyne and Heavy Metal Papillion. If she’d be willing to do these characters in the style she’s using here for Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury, I bet it would be stunning. I’m sure the usual characters will also get new art as well, my Twitter blew up with people begging for Mars and Jupiter.

  • Yes

Yeah! How dare someone continue to make money off their own ideas! The very nerve of it all. And now that they’re re-releasing the show, and MORE people might come and enjoy it? Infuriating! She’s basically FORCING me to be a hipster and say “It was better off before all these new fans came in.”

Yeah… She’s lost our respect. And knowing what I know about internet, I know that that’s really going to matter, to everyone, everywhere. ESPECIALLY to Ms. Naoko (I too know that’s her first name. Good thing we made that clear, right, otherwise people might question our credibility! *fist bump of solidarity*

  • No

    No, honestly, I’m pissed off.

This whole Sailor Moon revival has been nothing except about money. Sailor Moon has been loved in every single place in this world. Everything about Sailor Moon has taught it’s fans about love, and friendship, and about making everything work when you think you have nothing. I have completely lost my respect for Ms. Naoko (This is her first name, I’m aware.) And I never thought I would ever say this in my lifetime. I respected her. I admired her, but now, the most anticipated dream I have had..came true…only to realize she’s money hungry.

I understand the Japanese releases of products being geared towards the older fans, I do. But, it’s simply not fair. I’ve been collecting Sailor Moon merchandise from all over the world for years…and to see new products that are officially from Japan that cost $100 USD+….Naoko…You are no longer someone I respect. YOU KNEW Sailor Moon touched the hearts of millions and back then, everything was a reasonable price. But now…you….are just using this because you are greedy. Shame on you.

    • Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

To No : You’re wrong! Ms. Naoko is not like that kind of person. You should thank that they’re selling Sailor Moon souvenirs and I wished to have one. I know that Ms. Naoko is not money hungry and greedy, she’s just using her talent and I admire her. She inspired me to make my one manga series and I’m thanking her. And I’m thanking her for making Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. Most of all, I respect her.
