Sailor Moon Star Locket Proplica Confirmed Tamashii Nations
Sailor Moon fans rejoice! It’s been confirmed at the Tamashii Nations 2014 event that there will be a new Sailor Moon Star Locket Proplica!!!!! No information is known at this point besides the English name on the display card that reads “music box of starlit sky”. Update: There’s now a new photo of the display case label which says the scheduled release date is June 2016…2016!!!!
Here are some thoughts and speculation. There have been questions about whether this is a mix up and if this is actually the Moonlight Memory Series Star Locket that was just announced last week. Judging from the pictures they are two different items. Most noticeably in the center pink circle, one is a faceted gem the other is a much bigger circle. The lid hinges are inverted, the silver circle ring part is different and the chains are different as well.
I’m curious why they didn’t announce this on the Ustream yesterday along with the Crystal Star compact. This makes me wonder if the circled “4th in the series” line that was shown during the Ustream was really a typo if they had the Star Locket ready all along! I hope this is still in the very early stages and maybe we can get a light up screen with the moving clouds and the sky like in the anime. Update: With the 2016 release date I’m hopeful more anime-accurate changes will be made before the final product is settled! These are just some of my random thoughts 😀 What do you guys think? Yay? Nope? Who knew we would get not one but TWO Star Lockets, one of the most sought after Sailor Moon toys!

I’m a bit confused. This Star Locket is a Bandai product. It’s a re-release of the 1992 Star Locket, but I keep seeing this photo of it circulating around and people saying it is a Proplica item. Proplica hasn’t released a version of the Star Locket, so where did this information come from? And does Proplica actually plan on releasing their own version of the Star Locket?

mm plays music too , the chinese one still looks cheap in my eyes because are chinese stuff are cheap like this. even the proplica star locket looks better in my eyes then the chinese version and that person that think i pay 1600 dollar for some chinese crap is nuts. moonlight memories is cheaper then chinese version so i have those and my 90s lockets and it beats the chinese version

I was hoping that the proplica version would be released sooner (with more comprehensive information) so I could decide whether I really wanted the Moonlight Memories one or the proplica. I’ve really liked the Proplicas so far, and I suspect I will prefer their version of the star locket, but that 18 months from now…plus a few more for the US release version from Amazon. And for all I know they’ll do limited quantities on it or it will be hard to get because it’s everyone’s favorite item. So I guess I’ll be sticking with the MM version.
I, personally, am hoping that when the proplica is really released we’ll get something _amazing_ like the bootleg/”fanmade” star locket with the LED screen in it that I’ve seen floating around youtube. In fact the only thing that kept me from attempting to get that version was the hope that they’d eventually release a proplica.

The Moonlight Memories collectibles are supposed to look like the 90 toys from what I heard. Yeah, they will have a slight updated look, but these collectibles look like they are aimed towards the collectors who didn’t have a chance of getting the toys before and are more affordable.
I preordered the MM locket and will probably get the Proplica one as well.

Honestly, not impressed. It just looks like a new finish to the old start locket…. Especially the inner part with the moon dial. It looks exactly like the old one except for the pink “gem” in now shiny…. It actually looks like they just took the old locket and buffed it up so it looks shiny. I was hoping for something a LOT better.

Yeah i am a bit disappointed with this too. Still a good chance for the people who can’t efford an old crystal star like me,but if they just want to do a remake of the old toy moonlight memory series should make it.

Already ordered the Moonlight Memories versions a few days ago. I don’t regret my first order, especially since the pink version is Premium Bandai exclusive and this order is an exact copy of the 90s toy. I do agree that the timing of this wasn’t good but these are apparently leaked photos. My guess is that they weren’t planning to announce this till maybe early next year. At least with the proplica items I don’t have to be so quick on ordering them. They’ll be plenty of places that will have them when it releases so I can save my money and get them when I can afford them. I’m gonna wait till Amazon decides to list it there.
I do however hope that this is a protoype and not the final product. They could improve on a lot of things to make the star locket better like making it light up, possibly making the locket look not as chunky and changing the jewel to red in the center. Maybe they put this one together to have something to show for the event. The main focus appears to be for the crystal compact.

Man I was so disappointed with these news. I spent quite a lot to preorder the Bandai Premium Star Locket and now this?! I will only buy the Proplica Star Locket if its speed in playing the melody is slower than the Bandai version.

They didn’t technically announce the star locket proplica.
These pictures were leaked somehow. Photo and video was not supposed to be allowed in this area. No details regarding price and date of release have been made known.
I am speculating that they were going to release it next but with the MM series they decided to swap. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next MM is the crystal star locket and then the proplica is the star locket. I am looking forward to finding out just what sets this one apart from the MM one to see if it is worth dishing out more $ for.

I predict that if this leak holds up and the project doesn’t get scrapped, then we won’t see the official release of the Proplica star locket until spring / summer of next year. It appears that news about the next proplica is released only when the previous Proplica is officially released to the public. Also, I don’t really understand why they would have it at the convention if it wasn’t meant to be displayed to begin with. Then again, we might get more news today since it is the last day of the showing in Japan and it wasn’t meant to be revealed until the last day.

I really am starting to wonder with the announcement of the last two Proplica items, if they are taking more cues from the old toys / Moonlight Memory series about what the props should look like than they are from the actual show. I’ll be sorely disappointed if this is the final version of the Proplica star locket- as someone else mentioned, the center circle is red in the show. It really should light up, too, if we’re going to consider it a replica as opposed to a really nice toy.

I think they announced the Crystal Locket + Moonlight Memory Star Locket before the Proplica one because they figured the Proplica would sell more than the Moonlight Memory … and they knew fans were waiting to jump on the star lockets as soon as they’d be announced …

the 20th anniversary is more for young adults too but it is selling well … i saw a list on a japanese site. there will come a spiral moon rod too from 20th anniversary and a kaleido scope but they did not say when and it is not even confirmed when and maybe we get more talking lockets too :3 but nothing is confirmed

I think this proplica is much more accurate than the Moonlight Memory Series and now I can really tell the difference between them: one is really a proper replica, the other one is just a revival from a merchandising that was sold in the 90s. I will definitely get the proplica BUT I think that their move was really really low this time. Most of Sailor Moon fans are young adults now and they made an extra efford to buy these items, specially in Europe with the economic crisis. It is difficult for many of us and their move was just to make more money now that they discovered 20 years later that Sailor Moon is, actually, profitable for them. It was pure and simple economic (liberal) speculation and that bugs me a lot.

I also agree, Tito. This honestly just shows how money crazed these companies are and how eager they are to profit from SM fans. I mean it’s great that Tamashii Nations is releasing the star locket for those who weren’t able to obtain the one released by Bandai but personally just seeing how close these two star lockets were announced is kind of insulting. Honestly I feel sorry for the collector who plans on buying most of the items that are being released since I’m sure by the end of it they’ll have several copies of the same item by different companies. Another part of me also feels like I shouldn’t be complaining since we moonies have gone through years without a single item of merchandise being released and now that there’s an influx of items I feel like we should be grateful. LOL
This also might explain why the Crystal Star Compact was labeled as 4th in series instead of the 3rd in the series. Tamashii Nations might not have known about Bandai’s plan of releasing their own version of the star locket so they swapped the star locket for the Crystal Star Compact at the last minute forgetting to change minor details like “4th in series.”

Thanks for the reply. I actually think they all know what they’re doing outside the public eyes. It’s just marketing and speculation. They must have all of this really really planned and in top secret, so I think it’s impossible for a company release something with other not knowing it…
As someone already said here,they wanted to release the Moonlight Series revival item and if the proplica went out before, they wouldn’t get so many buyers from that since the Moonlight Series are hardly canon. But this proplica IS a canon item, so they showed a week after… Thanks for all the drama they made us gone through last week, as the first coment said.
Anyways, I’m a moonie and I’m loving build my own Sailor Moon palace in my home so as you said I can’t complain totally since Sailor Moon was out of the world for so long and now we’re all capable of get merchandising, finally! I just hoped they played the game a little more respectfully, for the ones that are made them rich(er). Off course that are some basic marketing rules (not announce all items at once, make different sets with mixed items for people buy all of them and so) that I think it’s fair to go by it. But this move with the Star Locket item was pretty low IMHO and I don’t like to give my money and efford like this. They’re toying with many moonies feelings, expectations and thats harsh. Sailor Moon is not the-store-next-door merchandising, is somethin we all really love and appreciate.
Anyways, I’m still glad besides this. But if this is a proper replica, than the center jewel should be red and not pink! And I so hope this comes with light and the sky and clouds up to the roof! I really can’t imagine them making a proplica like this and in the next weeks or months annoucing an even-better-proplica-as-the-fans-asked-with-the-center-in-red-and-finally-with-light-sky-and–clouds… That would be and even lower kick after all this.

Agreed! Very good comment. But i am still disappointed why they make two star lockets. But honestly, this one doesnt look good so far! I hope they will change it, Proplica had made a good job so far ( well expect for the other new one the crsytal star, the speakers are not good hidden, also there have been alot other crsytal star item) The circle in the center is to big and should be red, the lockey itself looks so chubby and fat, the chain could be better and of course if it would light up it would be a reason to buy. But there is this same shiny background in the locket on the pictures 🙁 I hope for you they will change it! I’m happy i got an Moonlight Memory one and thats good enough for me.

You know I thought the same thing when I first saw the image circulating on instagram. It didn’t make any sense for Tamashii Nations to release the star locket when just a couple days back Bandai announced theirs. So to get more information I looked around and found this site: http://hobby-maniax.com/archives/20326 According to this report at the Tamshii Nation 2014 event they had several items for display, one of which was the moon locket. It seems, however, that the item is meant to be kept somewhat out of the public’s eye since the report mentions that photographs of the display for the moon locket at this event were prohibited. So more than likely these images of the locket are leaked images.

The Proplica is a much more accurate rendition. That’s what Proplica is about after all, accurate models. It doesn’t look cheap at all. The Moonlight Memory version is vintage, re-releases of the toys from the 90’s, hence the name “Moonlight Memory”. After the beautifuk work theat were are the Proplica Moon Stick and Cutie Moon Rod, they wouldn’t all of a sudden not do what they intended for the brand, and that’s to produce super accurate replicas.

So far it doesnt look like they did a good job on that one.. it looks so big and fat and the circle in the center is so big not also not the color from the anime sane with the chain. Maybe they will be with electronic working? That would make the melody better. But we don’t know so far. Still very disappointing.

Assuming that this Proplica Star Locket isn’t run electronically, I think the reason they’ve made it bigger than the Bandai replica is to compensate for the orgel inside. The Bandai version didn’t have the correct tempo for the melody because they wanted to replicate the locket to scale with the anime, so the orgel needed to be smaller inside. If the orgel is bigger the melody would be slower and more accurate to the Moonlight Denetsu we all know and love.

Hmmm… Well Proplica products seem to be generally more accessible in the US considering they’re being sold on US Amazon and they were at a bunch of booths at the CA Anime Expos. I am still happy that I ordered the Moonlight Memory one since at least I think that one is a JP-only product. They don’t seem too different in quality either as far as I can tel from the photos. They look like they’re both plastic and both have a holographic sticker underneath the moon. I think the only thing that might make me run for it is if the song it plays sounds better and/or slower. What do you guys think? I’ll probably buy the proplica regardless if I see it at a convention.
